The New River Valley Greens are the local chapter of the Green Party. We represent Greens across the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski, as well as the City of Radford. We work through electoral politics and direct action to bring about our platform.
Our Platform
- Ecological Wisdom
- Transition the NRV to 100% renewable energy.
- Close the Radford Arsenal. The company should pay to support efforts to remediate the environmental damage they have caused.
- Oppose the expansion or construction of any fossil fuel infrastructure
- Social Justice
- Establish a tenant’s union to fight back against the power of landlords and rising housing costs and advocate for tenants.
- Promote the expansion and integration of public transit networks
- Advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+, refugees, women, people of color, and other marginalized groups.
- Democracy
- Transition local elections to Ranked-Choice Voting
- Promote and expand efforts to engage citizens at the local level
- Peace
- Limit the carrying of firearms in public places
- Promote an awareness of, and responses to, domestic violence, including taking seriously the threat posed by the domestic ownership of firearms
- Encourage the use of deescalation techniques and best practices for police encounters
